So who is Shark Vacuums and why should I consider getting one? Ever wonder where a company like Shark Euro Pro got its start? Actually, the history of the company goes back over 100 years to Poland, where it originally sold sewing machines. Up until about 13 years ago, Shark Euro-Pro products could only be found in Canada. Subsequently, they started to sell their merchandise to the United States market, using shopping networks and catalog stores like Fingerhut and Spiegel. Finally, in late 2001, Shark Euro-Pro started their now-famous infomercials.
It wasn’t until 2007 that Shark experienced a real explosion in the U.S. markets when they ran a special 30-minute infomercial to introduce the Shark Steam Mop. This gamble hit big, and it ultimately became one of the most successful infomercials for the company. Infomercials turned out to be an excellent format for their products such as the Steam Mop because the product solved a problem most people can relate to, according to Jeff Frankel, Vice President for the Newton, Massachusetts-based Shark Euro-Pro. “That really helped us explode into retail,” Frankel stated, and the company went on to do about $450 million in sales that year with over 90% coming from retail.
Shark Euro-Pro is headed up by Mark Rosen, the king of American television direct-response advertisement and chief executive of Euro-Pro Operating LLC. It must be fate for Mark as he began his career in his parents’ business selling sewing machines, much like Euro-Pro’s start in Poland over 100 years ago. Under Mark’s leadership, Euro-Pro began the house wares infomercials in 2001, and they haven’t looked back since their astounding success in 2007, with the Shark Steam Mop.
For our home, it was the purchase of a Shark handheld vacuum. It was a bagless model that has worked flawlessly for three years now! Not only is it the longest lasting handheld vacuum that we’ve owned, it’s also the most powerful one as well.
